The most common test performed is the skin prick test, which gives an immediate result.  Small sterile needles (lancets) are used to gently prick the skin. These tests are itchy for about 15 minutes, and then it’s all over.  A soothing anti-inflammation cream can be applied afterwards (you just have to ask). Blood tests can provide similar information, but the results are not available on the same day, unlike skin prick tests. Dr Ali works closely with consultants in related fields including: Dermatologists (skin specialists), ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Dietitians, all of whom specialise in allergic conditions. Occasionally patients may need onward referral, when necessary. e.g. patch testing for cosmetic allergy by a dermatologist, or evaluation for sinus surgery by an ENT consultant. These consultants are all leaders in their fields, with proven track records, so you can be sure you are going to see the right person.

Dr Ali is certified as an adult specialist only; therefore she does not see patients under the age of 16. She works closely with leading Paediatric Allergy consultants and is happy to advise on a specialist for your child.
